Creating mentally healthy workspaces for everyone.

At The Mental Health Community, we believe that everyone deserves to thrive at work, including people living with mental health conditions. We want every workplace to have  mental health inclusion as a usual, practical part of everyday working life.

Good intentions are everywhere, many managers want to support their teams but don’t feel confident to.

“I want to support my team but I don’t know where to start. What if I say the wrong thing?”

We hear this a lot. Without solid support, leaders feel stuck, staff feel unseen, and mental health conversations stall before they even begin.

That’s why we exist: We help organisations move from well-meaning intent to real, embedded change that makes a difference every day.

We work with a wide variety of organisations – from two‑person social enterprises to multi‑site education providers, across sectors including hospitality, culture, forestry, and local government. Our practical support, including the 12‑month Community Headspace programme and our library of action‑focused workshops, helps leaders and teams build confidence, understanding, and lasting inclusion.

2025 Impact

What we’re achieving

Our latest evaluation shows meaningful improvements in how people experience mental health at work, with 100% of participants reporting they would recommend us to others:

  • 81% said conversations about mental health had got better or much better.
  • 67% felt more confident supporting colleagues with a mental health condition.
  • 69% said people with a mental health condition were better able to advocate for their needs.
  • 63% reported better access to reasonable adjustments for everyone.
  • Feelings of safety to ask for support rose from 60% to 88%.
  • Confidence to be open about mental health rose from 49% to 94%.

These results show workplaces becoming safer, more open, and more supportive.

Why this matters

Independent research from the Enterprise Research Centre  shows that when workplaces improve psychological safety, strengthen mental health conversations, and make support easier to access, organisations see measurable long‑term benefits such as reduced sickness absence, lower presenteeism, and improved staff retention.

Our impact evaluation results – better conversations, greater confidence, and safer access to support – directly align with the conditions that research identifies as drivers of healthier attendance patterns and stronger workforce stability.

How we know it’s working

We evaluate every programme using start‑ and end‑point surveys, workshop feedback, and participant reflections. We measure both confidence and culture change because inclusion isn’t just about policy –  it’s about people feeling safe and supported.

Our data shows consistent improvement across all indicators, confirming that our approach delivers real, lasting impact.

In other words, the improvements we’re seeing now are the early indicators of healthier, more stable workplaces.
